Approve a Driver Phone: Free Until First Sort This Month
Learn how to approve a driver phone for your fleet, with free approval until the first sort this month. Control costs with fleet pricing per driver.
The hidden cost of adding a driver
Adding a new driver to your delivery fleet should be simple. But too often, it means sharing passwords, chasing IT, or worse—paying for phones that never turn a wheel. You need a way to get drivers running routes fast, without adding seats you don't need or paying for phones that sit idle.
This article shows you how to approve a driver phone in StopSorted so they can pull fleet runs. You'll see how approval is free until that phone's first sort this month, and how billing only kicks in when a phone actually runs a route. No more guessing, no more wasted spend.
How it works: one phone, one seat
In StopSorted, each fleet seat is one phone you approve. Shared passwords don't quietly add seats. When a driver requests access from their phone, you approve that specific device. There's no limit on how many phones you can approve. You only pay when a phone starts a route this month.
Approving is free until that phone's first sort. The first two phones that run sit on the $69 monthly plan. Phone 3 and later that run charge $20 on that first route. If you remove a phone before it runs, it's not billed. This means you can set up your whole team without worrying about surprise charges.
Step-by-step: approving a driver phone
- Tell the driver to request access. They install StopSorted, choose Fleet, enter the work email you expect, and tap Request access. Full steps: Join a fleet from the app.
- Open Fleet Login and go to Devices. Pending requests appear at the top of the Devices tab. No extra buttons to find.
- Review the request. Edit the Device name if you want (it starts as the phone model). Check the email and how long is left—about 30 minutes from their request.
- Tap Approve. Confirm if asked. That's it. The name you typed stays on that phone.
If the driver's app was closed, they just open it again. It finishes login. They shouldn't need to request a second time.
What the driver sees vs what you see
Driver's view: After you approve, the driver opens the app and sees their assigned runs. They get a sorted stop order, can open Google Maps or Waze for turn-by-turn, and can mark stops as done. They don't see billing or other drivers' details.
Your view (fleet controller): In Fleet Login, you see all approved phones under Devices. You can name them, see which are active, and manage billing. You control who runs and when. The office gets a live map of each run, so you know where every driver is without calling.
Customer's view: If you use proof of delivery, customers can get a notification with arrival time and a photo or signature. But that's optional.
A realistic scenario: adding a weekend driver
Imagine you run a small delivery company with two vans. You need a third driver for Saturdays. You could add a seat and pay extra, but what if that driver only works occasionally?
With StopSorted, you approve their phone for free. If they don't run a route this month, you pay nothing. When they do run, that phone becomes the third phone that runs, so it charges $20 on that first sort. If they stop working, you remove the phone and it won't be billed next month.
Before: You might pay for a full month for a driver who works one day. After: You pay only when they actually run. That's real savings for part-time or seasonal drivers.
Frequently asked questions
How long does approval take? About 30 minutes from the driver's request. If it times out, they can request again or you can recover it.
Can I approve more phones than I need? Yes. There's no limit on approvals. You only pay when a phone runs a route this month.
What if a driver gets a new phone? You can offboard the old phone and approve the new one. The old phone won't be billed if it doesn't run.
Do shared passwords add seats? No. Each seat is a specific approved phone. Sharing a password doesn't create a new seat.
