You pull up to a new estate where the street sign is missing. You type the address into your driver route app. Nothing. You try the postcode. Still nothing. You ring the customer, who says, "Just look for the house with the red mailbox behind the servo." You lose ten minutes, and the next three stops slip.

Every driver has a list of places search cannot find: new builds, rural lots, warehouses tucked behind other warehouses, unit blocks with no street frontage. You can drop a pin on the map to get there today. But tomorrow, the pin is gone and you start from scratch.

This article shows you how to save those pins on your phone as custom addresses, so the next time that stop appears on your run, you already know exactly where it is. It works on the StopSorted Android app, and we will also cover what fleet drivers do when the office controls the device.

How custom addresses work

When you search for an address and the app cannot find a match, StopSorted lets you place a pin on the map instead. That gets you to the door today.

If you want to keep that pin for later, you save it as a custom address. You give it a name, like "Back gate — Smith" or "Unit 4 rear laneway", and the app stores it on your phone. From then on, when you search for that stop, your custom pin appears alongside normal search results.

Some pins stay on this phone only. That is deliberate. A private house is not a public venue, so there is no reason for every driver in the country to see it. But shared places that verify as real venues can show up for everyone later. This means your local knowledge helps the wider network when it is safe to do so.

If you are on a fleet account, the office manages these pins for you. You will not see the Custom addresses menu on your phone. Instead, the fleet controller edits them under Devices → Device Settings → Custom addresses in the fleet login. This keeps every driver on the same page for shared stops.

Step-by-step: save a pin on your phone

This is for Play and solo accounts. Fleet drivers, skip to the next section.

  1. Open the side menu (☰).
  2. Tap Custom addresses.
  3. Tap Add with map pin to place a new one. You will see the same centre-pin map you used when search found nothing.
  4. Move the map until the pin sits on the exact entrance or gate. Tap to confirm.
  5. Give it a name and check the address text. Tap Save.
  6. To edit a saved pin, tap the row, change the name or address, then Save.
  7. To remove one you no longer need, tap the trash icon.

That is it. The pin is now stored on your phone. Next time you search for that stop, it will come up.

What fleet drivers do instead

If you drive a fleet phone, your office handles custom addresses. You cannot add or edit them from the handset.

The fleet controller logs into the fleet login, goes to Devices → Device Settings → Custom addresses, and manages the pins there. They can add a pin for a tricky depot, rename one that is confusing, or delete an old one when a site closes.

This matters because fleet phones are shared. If one driver saves a pin on their handset, the next driver on that phone might not know it is there. Central management keeps it consistent. The controller sees the same pin every driver sees, and updates flow to every device that runs that route.

If you are a driver and you find a new pin that should be shared, tell your controller. They can add it in the office so everyone benefits.

What the driver sees vs what the office sees

Driver on a Play or solo account: You see the Custom addresses menu in the side menu. You can add, edit, and delete pins on your own phone. Your pins are yours.

Driver on a fleet phone: You do not see that menu. The office manages pins for you. You still get the benefit — the pin appears in search when you need it — but you cannot change it from the handset.

Fleet controller: You see all custom addresses across your devices under Devices → Device Settings → Custom addresses. You can add a pin once and it applies to the device or group you choose. You can also remove pins when a site is no longer used.

Customer: They never see any of this. They just get a driver who arrives without ringing for directions.

A worked example: the new estate that search cannot find

A driver we will call Sam runs a delivery route in a growth suburb. Three new streets are not in the map data yet. Every day, Sam types the address, gets nothing, and has to ring the customer. Each call takes two to three minutes. With three stops like that, that is nearly ten minutes lost every day.

Sam opens the side menu, taps Custom addresses, and adds a pin for each new house. He names them by street and lot number. The next day, the same three stops come up on the run. Sam searches, sees his custom pin, and taps it. No call. No guessing. The ten minutes go back into the day.

If Sam were on a fleet phone, he would pass those three pins to his controller. The controller adds them under Devices → Device Settings → Custom addresses, and every driver on that device gets the benefit.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I see the Custom addresses menu? You are likely on a fleet phone. The menu appears for Play and solo accounts only. Fleet phones are managed by the office under Devices → Device Settings → Custom addresses.

Will my custom pin show up for other drivers? Some pins stay on this phone only. That is normal for private houses. Shared places that verify as real venues can show up for everyone later. If you need a pin shared across a fleet, the office can add it centrally.

What happens if I delete a custom address? It is removed from your phone. You can always add it again with Add with map pin if you need it later.

Can I edit the name after saving? Yes. Tap the row in Custom addresses, change the name or address text, and tap Save.

Try it on your next run

Next time search lets you down, do not just drop a pin and forget it. Save it as a custom address. It takes ten seconds and saves you the same hassle every time that stop comes around.

For the full step-by-step, see the custom addresses guide. If you are setting up a fleet, learn how the office manages pins under how it works. And if you are ready to give every driver a phone that remembers the tricky stops, see pricing.

StopSorted is live in Australia today, with more countries added as drivers request them. If you are outside Australia, tell us where you are — we build coverage country by country.
