If you run a delivery fleet, you know the feeling. A customer calls asking where their order is. A driver goes quiet for an hour. You have no idea if they're stuck in traffic, lost, or just taking a long lunch. Every unknown costs you time, phone calls, and trust.

StopSorted's live map changes that. From your office computer, you can open the Fleet Login and see every van that's out on a run right now. No more guessing. No more interrupting drivers with "where are you?" calls. You see the phone's location on a map, and you can open any run to see the exact path the van took.

This article walks you through how the live map works, what you'll see, and how to get the most out of it. By the end, you'll know how to keep your fleet visible, your customers informed, and your day running smoother.

How it works

The live map is part of the StopSorted Fleet Login. It's not a separate app or a complicated setup. Here's the simple breakdown:

  • Each driver uses the StopSorted app on their phone. When they're on a run, the app shares the phone's location.
  • Your office opens the Fleet Login on any computer. The Overview page shows a map with a pin for every phone that's currently on a run.
  • Pins are labelled with the device name. If you name a phone "Run 19", you'll see "Run 19" on the map. Easy to match to your own numbering.
  • The map stays clean. GPS trails from past runs don't clutter this view. You see only where the vans are right now.

The map only shows phones that are actively on a run with location enabled. If a driver hasn't started their run or hasn't allowed location, they won't appear. That's by design — you see what matters, not every phone in the building.

What you see on the Overview page

Open the Fleet Login and go to Overview. You'll find four key numbers at the top:

  • Total Devices – how many phones you've approved for the fleet.
  • Active – phones that are currently on a run.
  • Blocked – phones you've paused or that have been removed.
  • Billable this month – phones that have started at least one route this month. This is what you're billed for.

Below that, the Live Device Locations map shows the active phones. Each pin is a phone that has checked in while on a run. The label tells you which device it is.

If a phone shows as active but isn't on the map, it might be between stops or have a temporary signal issue. If it's been a while, you can check the phone's status under Devices.

Step-by-step: How to watch a run live

Here's exactly what you do, from logging in to seeing the action:

  1. Go to the Fleet Login at stopsorted.com/fleet. Enter your admin details.
  2. Click on Overview in the menu.
  3. Look at the numbers – Total Devices, Active, Blocked, Billable this month. This tells you the health of your fleet at a glance.
  4. Find the live map – it's labelled Live Device Locations. You'll see pins for each phone that's currently on a run.
  5. Hover over or tap a pin to see the device name. If you want more detail, go to Routes and open the specific run.
  6. To see where a van drove, open the run from Routes. The map shows a gold path – the exact route the driver took. That's useful for verifying deliveries or checking for detours.

That's it. No special training needed. If you can use a map app, you can use this.

What the driver sees vs what you see

The driver's app is about the job at hand. They see a numbered list of stops, the next address, and turn-by-turn directions. They tap Done, Skip, or Failed at each stop. They don't see the office map.

Your office view is the big picture. You see every active phone on one map. You can spot a driver who's been parked for 20 minutes, or one who's heading the wrong way. You can answer a customer's "where's my delivery?" call without bothering the driver.

The driver doesn't need to log out when they finish. When they've completed every stop (Done, Skip, or Failed), the run shows as Complete on their device and on your Routes list. The Active now count clears automatically once the last stop is done. So your map stays accurate without any extra steps from the driver.

Real-world example: A day with the live map

Let's say you have three vans out on morning runs. You're at your desk when a customer calls: "My delivery was supposed to arrive by 10. It's 10:30. Where is it?"

Without the live map, you'd have to call the driver, wait for an answer, and hope they can give you a clear update. That's a few minutes of your time and a customer left on hold.

With the live map, you glance at the Overview page. You see the driver for that area is still on the map, but they're stopped at a location that's not the customer's address. You can open the run to see the gold path – maybe they took a wrong turn and are now 10 minutes away. You call the driver, get a quick update, and ring the customer back with a real answer.

The result? The customer feels informed, the driver isn't hounded for updates, and you've handled it in under a minute. That's the difference a live map makes.

FAQs

Why is the map empty?

If you've just started using StopSorted, the map will be empty until a driver actually goes out on a run with location enabled. Check that the phone is ACTIVE under Devices, that the driver has allowed location permissions, and that a heartbeat interval is set under Settings.

Do drivers need to log out to show as finished?

No. When a driver finishes their last stop, the run is marked Complete automatically. The live map clears that phone from Active now. No extra steps for the driver.

Can I see where a van went yesterday?

Yes. Open the specific run from the Routes page. You'll see the GPS trail – a gold path showing the exact route the van drove. This is useful for verifying deliveries or reviewing a driver's route.

Is the live map available for all my phones?

As long as each phone is approved and has the StopSorted app installed, it can appear on the live map. You can approve as many phones as you need. You're only billed for phones that actually start a route in a given month, so you can have spare phones approved at no cost.
