The pain of getting started

You've just been hired or added to a new delivery fleet. You're keen to get on the road, but first you need access to the company's runs. Without it, you're stuck waiting, calling the office, and losing time. The office is busy, and you don't want to be a nuisance.

This article walks you through joining a fleet from the StopSorted driver app. You'll learn how to request access, what happens while you wait, and what to do if things don't go smoothly. By the end, you'll know exactly how to get approved and start your first run.

How it works

When you join a fleet, the office needs to approve your phone so you can see and accept company runs. It's a security step to make sure only authorised drivers get access.

Here's the simple process:

  1. You install StopSorted and choose Fleet.
  2. You enter your work email and tap Request access.
  3. The app tells the office you're waiting.
  4. The office approves your phone under Devices.
  5. Your app updates and shows your runs.

The whole thing usually takes just a few minutes, but the request stays open for about 30 minutes. If it times out, you can request again.

Step-by-step: join your fleet

Follow these steps to request access from your phone:

  1. Install the app – Get StopSorted from the Google Play Store, or use the link your company provided.
  2. Choose Fleet – When you open the app, select the Fleet option.
  3. Enter your work email – Use the email address your office expects. This helps them match your request to your driver profile.
  4. Tap Request access – The app sends your request to the office.
  5. Wait for approval – You can leave the app on the Waiting for approval screen, or close it. If you close it, just reopen it later; it will keep waiting.
  6. Let the office know – Tell your dispatcher or manager that you've requested access. They need to approve you under Devices in their StopSorted fleet login.
  7. Approved! – Once approved, the app will open your runs. You're ready to go.

Tip: If you closed the app after they approved, just open it again. It will finish logging you in. You shouldn't need to pick a plan again.

If the approval timer runs out (about 30 minutes), simply request again and ask the office to approve straight away. For more help, see the guide on approval expired, rejected, or new phone.

What the driver sees vs. the office

From your side, it's straightforward: you request access and wait. The app shows a clear Waiting for approval message. Once approved, your runs appear automatically. No need to refresh or log in again.

On the office side, the fleet controller sees your request in their Devices list. They can approve or reject it. They might also see other pending requests from new drivers. Approving is a quick tap, but they need to know to look for it. That's why it's important to tell them you've requested access.

A real-world scenario

Meet Alex, a new courier for a small delivery company. On his first day, he installs StopSorted and requests fleet access using his work email. He waits a few minutes, but nothing happens. He closes the app and helps unload a van. Meanwhile, the office manager, Sam, is busy with morning dispatch and doesn't check the Devices list.

After an hour, Alex reopens the app and sees it's still waiting. He politely reminds Sam. Sam opens the fleet login, sees Alex's request, and approves it. Within seconds, Alex's app updates with his runs for the day. He starts his route immediately, no further setup needed.

Before: Alex wasted an hour waiting and had to chase the office. After: A simple reminder got him approved in seconds, and he was on the road.

Frequently asked questions

How long does approval take? It depends on how quickly the office checks the Devices list. The request stays open for about 30 minutes. If it expires, you can request again and ask them to approve right away.

What if I close the app while waiting? No problem. Just reopen it later. The app will continue waiting and will finish logging you in once approved.

Can I use a personal email? It's best to use the work email your office expects. That way they can easily match your request to your driver profile.

What if my request is rejected? Contact your office to find out why. They may need to update your details or approve you manually. You can also check the approval help guide.
