Pin Any Stop First, Before a Suburb, or Last on Your Run

A post office sits two streets from the depot, but the sorter keeps pushing it to the end of the run. A pickup has to happen before one particular drop, and no amount of dragging fixes it for good. So you do it by hand, every single morning, and hope the phone doesn't ring while you're reordering stops at the lights.

VIP areas solve the big picture — a whole suburb, a lasso around a cluster, a customer you always serve early. They can't solve the one stop that sits inside the wrong zone. That's what run position is for.

This article shows you how to pin a single stop to first, before a suburb, before another stop, or last — and when each one is the right tool.

When a VIP area isn't enough

A VIP area is a shape on the map. Everything inside it gets lifted up the list.

Run position is a rule on one stop. It beats the shape.

Picture a post office in a suburb you serve in the middle of the run. You want it early because the mail cage closes at a set time. Draw a VIP area around the post office and you've also dragged every nearby delivery forward. Set position on the post office instead and only that stop moves.

Position rules outrank VIP zones for that stop. If you set a position, VIP and lasso priority no longer apply to it. That's the point: you're saying "this one, not the neighbourhood."

The four positions

• First — the first delivery after leaving the depot. Outranks VIP zones.
• Before suburb — the last stop before you start that suburb. Useful when a post office or freight depot has to be cleared before you touch any address in the area.
• Before stop — must come before one specific stop on the list. Good for pickups that feed a later drop.
• Last — the final delivery before heading home. Other stops in that suburb still group together; this one is the tail.

Four options, four different jobs. Pick the one that matches the reason, not the one that's easiest to reach.

How it works

Run position is stored on the stop itself, not on the map.

1. You mark a position on a stop on the Stops tab.
2. When you sort the run, the sorter reads those marks before it reads VIP areas.
3. Stops with a position land where you said. Everything else is sorted normally.
4. VIP areas still apply to every stop that doesn't carry a position.

That last line matters. You don't lose your VIP setup by pinning one stop. You just carve out an exception.

Set position, step by step

Do this before you sort. The sorter respects the pins at sort time, not after.

1. On the Stops tab, tap Edit on a stop (or More → Position).
2. Choose Default, Last, Before suburb, or Before stop.
3. For Before suburb, pick the suburb from stops already on the run.
4. For Before stop, pick the stop that must come after this one.
5. Tap Save.
6. When ready, sort the run — the sorter respects these pins.

A few practical notes:

• Before suburb only offers suburbs that already have stops on the run. Add the stop first, then pin it.
• Before stop chains two stops together. If you later remove the stop you named, check the pin again.
• You can set position before or after drawing VIP areas. Re-sort after changing position rules.
• Changing your mind is fine. Set the stop back to Default and it rejoins the normal sort.

What the driver sees vs what the office sees

The driver sees a numbered list. That's it. Stop 1, stop 2, stop 3, with the pin already baked into the order.

There's no extra flag to watch for, no "priority" label to interpret at the kerb. The post office is simply stop 2 instead of stop 14. The driver opens the next stop in Google Maps or Waze, or follows the in-app turns, and the pin has already done its work.

The office or fleet controller sees the same order on the live map, plus the reason behind it. That means when a driver rings to ask why the post office is early, the answer is on screen — someone set it that way on purpose.

If you run a fleet, this is also how you keep local knowledge in the system instead of in one driver's head. The rule travels with the run.

A worked example

Depot in the north. Two suburbs south on the run: Northville and Southside. Both have a post office.

Without pins, the sorter groups the suburbs and puts both post offices wherever they fall. You end up doubling back or missing a closing time.

Now set two positions:

• Post office in Northville → Before suburb Southside
• Post office in Southside → Last

Result: Northville stops → Post Northville → Southside stops → Post Southside → home.

Clean run south, no doubling back, both post offices handled in the right order.

Want the opposite? Serve Southside first and finish in Northville. Set Post Southside Before suburb Northville and Post Northville Last. The same two stops, reversed, with two edits.

FAQ

Does a position rule beat a VIP area? Yes. Position rules outrank VIP zones for that stop. If you set a position, VIP and lasso priority no longer apply to it.

Do I lose my VIP areas by pinning one stop? No. VIP areas still apply to every stop that doesn't carry a position. You're carving out one exception, not switching the whole system off.

Can I set position after drawing VIP areas? Yes, in either order. Just re-sort after changing position rules so the new order takes effect.

What if I pick the wrong suburb or stop? Set the stop back to Default and re-sort. It rejoins the normal sort with no lasting effect.
