Turn-by-Turn Delivery App: Stay on Map or Hand Off to Waze

Choose how you get directions on your delivery run: stay on the StopSorted map or hand off to Google Maps, Waze, Sygic, or Yandex. Done and Skip still sync.

The daily juggle: directions vs. proof

You have a run to finish. The last thing you need is to fight your phone. One app for directions. Another for the stop list. A third to mark a delivery done. By the time you have tapped between them, you have missed a turn — and the office still thinks stop four is open.

StopSorted fixes that by letting you choose how directions work. You can stay on the StopSorted map for turns, Done, and Skip — or hand the roads to Google Maps, Waze, Sygic, or Yandex. Either way, your Done and Skip taps land on the office map. No Next button that leaves stops looking open. No second device. No guesswork.

This article walks through both paths, step by step, so you can set it up once and get on with the day.

How it works

Every stop on your sorted run has an address. When you tap Navigate, StopSorted needs to know where to send you: its own map or another app.

In Settings you pick one of two modes.

  • Stay on this map. StopSorted shows the road ahead, a next-turn bar, and Done and Skip right there. Spoken turns use your phone voice.
  • Hand off to Maps / Waze. StopSorted opens your chosen app for turn-by-turn. Done and Skip stay on a bubble or notification so the office map stays honest.

Done or Skip is what the office map uses. There is no Next — advancing without Done left stops looking open. That is the whole point.

Setting up your navigation choice

  1. Open the StopSorted menu and tap Settings.
  2. Under navigation, choose Navigate on StopSorted map if you want to stay in-app. Leave it off if you prefer Google Maps, Waze, Sygic, or Yandex.
  3. If you are handing off, pick your app under Choose navigation app.
  4. On Android 10+, the first time you navigate you will choose how Done and Skip appear: a bubble on the map or a notification. The bubble is a small StopSorted chip you can tap for Done, Skip, or Open. The notification works on every phone.
  5. Optional: turn on Keep maps for this run offline while you still have signal. StopSorted downloads the area for your leftover stops so the map can keep working if signal drops.

That is it. You can switch anytime in Settings.

What the driver sees

On the StopSorted map: The road ahead highlights in blue. A full-width bar at the bottom shows the next turn — icon, distance, and instruction, like “120 m” and “Turn left onto Smith St.” If another turn follows soon, a short Then line appears. Under that is this stop’s address with Done and Skip. The map sits above the bar so the road stays in view. Spoken turns use the voice already on your phone. Tap the speaker to mute — the bar still shows.

Handing off to Maps / Waze: You get that app’s turn-by-turn. StopSorted stays connected in the background. The bubble or notification gives you Done and Skip without leaving the nav app. After you tap Done, directions to the next pin should start in Maps — you should not need to confirm Exit navigation.

What the office sees: The office map updates as soon as you tap Done or Skip. If signal drops, your taps are held on the phone and sync when you are back online — look for Waiting to sync. If a send fails, the banner says Couldn't sync a stop — will retry.

Worked example: one driver, two modes

Maya drives a mixed run — tight city streets in the morning, then a few rural drops after lunch.

For the city, she leaves Navigate on StopSorted map on. The next-turn bar keeps her eyes on the road, and Done is right there when she pulls up. No app switching at the curb.

After lunch, she switches to Google Maps for the rural leg. She taps Navigate, Google opens with directions to the pin. The StopSorted bubble floats on top. At each farm gate she taps Done on the bubble, and Maps starts the next leg. The office map stays current because StopSorted keeps syncing in the background.

Before StopSorted, Maya juggled two apps and called the office twice a day to confirm drops. Now she finishes the run without a single call about which stops are open.

After the last stop

When you tap Done on the last delivery, navigation continues to the finish address — heading back. On the StopSorted map, there is no Done on that last leg. Tap Stop navigation when you arrive, or Open in Maps if you want that app for the drive. If you are using Maps / Waze, it opens the finish address. Tap I'm back on the chip when you arrive.

FAQs

Can I use Waze instead of Google Maps? Yes. In Settings, choose your navigation app: Google Maps, Waze, Sygic, or Yandex. StopSorted hands off to whichever you pick.

What happens if I lose signal? Done and Skip are held on the phone and sync when you are back online. You will see Waiting to sync. If you turned on Keep maps for this run offline before losing signal, the StopSorted map can also find a new path without signal. New roads need the download.

Do I have to use the bubble? No. You can use the notification instead, or turn the bubble off in Settings. On older phones, StopSorted uses the notification automatically.

Can I switch between modes mid-run? Yes. Turn Navigate on StopSorted map on or off anytime in Settings. The change applies to your next Navigate tap.
